Opinion: If I were in charge of The Media - Fatima Kanji, 17,Brent

Participation
Portraying young people in a more accurate and representative light in the media would be a measure I would enforce. Misrepresentative images of young people widen the gap between the youth and their elders. I would promote the recognition of young people's achievements and contributions to society. Engaging more with youth organisations seeking to promote the voice of young people would be beneficial for people of all ages. The breakdown of social stereotypes may then lead to a bridging between different age groups.

Many young people today are pressurised into conforming into what tabloids and gossip magazines expect them to be. Instead of the media hounding celebrities with their imperfections, I would introduce a general consensus of appreciating and admiring different styles, sizes and also individuality.

I would highlight the differences between each and every one of us, celeb or non celeb, but celebrate this diversity between us all. This diversity makes us who we are as individuals.
