Opinion: If I were in charge of ... child poverty

1 min read
I would improve the education system first. If we did this, it could reduce the crime rate as child poverty is linked to crime. We need to teach children that it's not okay to become gangsters and own guns. Today's youth culture gives the impression that it's all right to possess knives.

Poorer children play out in the street and it is easy for gangs torecruit them and take advantage by offering them money to sell drugs. So, we need to encourage children to stay in education after the age of16.

Youth centres would also be a good idea, as many youngsters have nowhereto go in their spare time, and centres would get them involved in theirlocal community.

Some people should be given more benefits.

Seasonal grants would be a great idea. Money could be given to parentsso they could take their children out during the summer holidays or buythem gifts at Christmas.

Ultimately, it is up to people to help themselves. Of course, theGovernment wants to help those who are less fortunate, but people aresometimes unwilling to put in their own effort.
