No-one can take away the right to sue, nor should they be able to, particularly in a case of wilful or wanton negligence leading to death or serious injury.
My bill simply seeks to reduce the risk of unreasonable litigation against those who seek to bring adventure, sport and a whole range of other benefits to their fellow citizens. Recently, Sport England and the Central Council of Physical Recreation listed the threat of litigation as one of the two greatest barriers to volunteering. The other is red tape.
If we wish to roll back the tide of obesity and wider problems of isolation and loneliness, then we need more activities and adventure for young people, and for this we need volunteers. Yet organisations from the Guides to the Special Constabulary are losing volunteers year after year.
