Yes, sometimes. Not generally, but some children will feel intimidated by large groups of young people, especially when they don't know them, and they are not familiar with the club.
First impressions are very important. A really key issue for a youth club is how it reaches out to bring young people in. When a lot of young people step into somewhere, if they don't know what is going on and they don't know who is there, they can feel it is quite intimidating.
I don't believe this is particularly controversial - you can ask any 13- or 14-year-old. There is an issue to do with the age of the child; some children who are 12, 13, or 14 will be intimidated by older groups of young people, and may find it off-putting.
