Hot issue: Are young people fed up of hanging out in youth clubs?

3 mins read

NO: Bruce Kettle, youth services manager, London Youth

In my experience young people engage in a variety of provision; it's about choice of the individual and the support and provision available to them in the area they live. I am aware that many local authority statutory services have closed a lot of centres as they seek new methods to engage young people.

But London Youth works with more than 400 youth groups and organisations across London, and more than 75,000 young people, and continues to affiliate many new youth organisations and groups, mainly from the voluntary sector.

The provision available covers a range of projects engaging them in issue-based work, inclusion projects, Millennium Volunteers, volunteering, accreditation programmes, arts, training, holiday projects, after-school facilities and sports programmes. These projects are based in clubs, centres and schools, as well as in outreach and detached settings.
