Opinion: Hot issue - Should youth clubs put on firework displays?

1 min read

NO - Ian Perkins, senior youth worker, Staffordshire County Council

There are health and safety issues. We have to risk-assess everything and it would be difficult to tick the necessary boxes.

Firework displays are wonderful but it would be fairly risky for us to put one on - it would be difficult to control and regulate. The way forward is organised displays.

The last time I went to a semi-organised display there were young people doing things with the fireworks that were inappropriate.

YES - Sharon Withe, community safety manager, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service

I say yes, but only as long as they follow health and safety regulations and show they have taken the correct advice.
