I am writing to express my concern regarding the article "Activities require further structure" (YPN, 2-8 August, p2). I am the chairman of the Eastside Crew, which is a group trying to make the Eastside Project happen in Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria.
The group formed because people in the area were making a lot of complaints to the community police officer about the young people of Kirkby Stephen and surrounding areas.
The police officer, who knows the majority of young people in the area, understood that they have nowhere to go and nothing to do. So he teamed up with professional youth workers to try to help. From this, the Eastside Crew was created with the mission to form a youth centre.
