The YMCA is delighted the Government has underlined its commitment to tackle youth homelessness in Britain (YPN, 15-21 November, p2). Last year alone, almost 9,000 16- and 17-year-olds were accepted as homeless, and the skills and support needed to work with them are very different from those for the wider homeless population.

Leaving vulnerable young people to struggle in often cramped and dangerous conditions has been on our conscience for too long. It's vital young people who find themselves homeless have a range of suitable services that offer family mediation support and a thorough assessment of their needs.
