With regard to the Government's discussion paper Policy review of children and young people (YPN, 10-16 January, p2), in order to improve the lives of the most vulnerable children, young people and their families, the Government and local authorities must make sure they find ways to engage the most marginalised and disadvantaged.

It is absolutely vital that services are tailored to meet the specific needs of these groups. There needs to be a highly skilled workforce that can identify potential risk factors at an early stage, as well as having the ability to communicate and work across professional boundaries to access the necessary support these children and their families need.
