LGBT Youth Scotland welcomes Unison's comments regarding the need for further research into the experiences of LGBT young people and their call for LGBT-specific training for youth workers (YPN, 21-27 June, p2).

LGBT Youth Scotland, a national organisation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people, has recently published research into homophobic incidents in Scottish schools. Young people reported experiences of homophobic discrimination that had led to feelings of isolation, fear and difference and often to damaging behaviours such as self-harm. Worryingly, these young people also displayed a general lack of confidence in the abilities of school staff to combat homophobia.
