On the Ground: U Better Know

1 min read Youth Justice
A group of young people from Lambeth have launched their own teachers' pack to stimulate classroom discussions about crime and personal safety in the borough.

Funding £5,000 from Lambeth First
Aim To stimulate discussion about crime and personal safety.

The U Better Know project involved workshops in which nine young people, some at risk of offending, looked at the issue of violent crime and personal safety through photography and creative writing.

The young people were given disposable cameras to take away and use alongside their mobile phones to capture images for the pack.

They also wrote text to explain and give a personal interpretation of the pictures they took. The resulting material formed the basis of a teachers' pack, which will be used by professionals planning personal, social, health and citizenship education lessons in schools in Lambeth. The packs will also be used in youth clubs.
