Aim To help young offenders make a positive contribution to society

Young offenders in London are taking to the stage as part of a project to engage them in positive activities.

The Play Up/Pay Back programme, run by the Lyric theatre in Hammersmith and the Hammersmith and Fulham Youth Offending Service, has been designed for young people serving reparation orders.

The aim of the 12-week programme is to get young people to think about how their behaviour affects their local communities, and try to repair the damage of their actions.

Divided into two sections, the programme first addresses and challenges the issues around offending behaviour, while at the same time attempts to improve the young person's self-confidence and raise their aspirations. As part of this, the young people create a short performance to develop their social and interpersonal skills and gain a qualification in communication and teamwork.
