Aim To provide meaningful work for young offenders and improve public confidence in the justice system
A restorative justice scheme in Cambridgeshire has begun with the makeover of an ancient orchard.
A supervised team of young people referred to the Cambridgeshire Youth Offending Service (YOS) spent four hours putting down bark chips on paths and clearing weeds at the Harston Community Orchard. Further plans for the orchard include planting young apple trees grafted from local 16th- and 17th-century varieties, as well as tree surgery, mowing and general maintenance.
The work is part of the Pick a Site, We'll Put it Right initiative, which allows Cambridgeshire residents to recommend sites for youth reparation.
