Aim To raise awareness of the youth justice system
Scores of young people who are in prison are being given the opportunity to shape public opinion on youth custody as part of a pioneering scheme.
U R Boss, run by The Howard League for Penal Reform, gives young people in custody the opportunity to inform policy.
As part of the initiative, which launched in 2009 and is paid for with cash from the Big Lottery Fund, legal services provided by the Howard League for young people in the penal system are being expanded.
Meanwhile, the views of young people in the system are being sought so the charity can campaign to change national and local policy. The aim is to change public attitudes to children and young people in the justice system. The scheme will also train the young people to speak at parliamentary select committee hearings.
