Project: Partnership between Swindon Youth Offending Team and Wiltshire Police

Mission: To teach young people not to carry knives

Funding: Not needed

Swindon Youth Offending Team (YOT) and Wiltshire Police have launched a drive to teach young people and young offenders the consequences of carrying a knife or firearm.

The aim is to show young people that carrying weapons in the mistaken belief that it gives them street credibility or helps protect them from fear of attack from other young people does not work. It also aims to show that carrying a knife can be catastrophic for both them and their families.

Police officers from Wiltshire and Swindon have been receiving specialist training from the YOT to give them the skills to educate young people about the dangers and help to bring down the number of weapon-related offences.
