Project: A Journey Through the Criminal Justice System

Mission: To prevent young people from turning to crime

Funding: About £5,000 from various partners including police and children's services.

More than 20 sixth-form students worked with Swindon Youth Offending Team (YOT) and local media organisation Crea8 to produce a film following the journey of a young offender through the criminal justice system. The idea was to show young people how being convicted of a crime can affect your life.

The 15-minute film is based on real events and shows the full process of a young offender's crime, from the robbery though to his appearance in youth court, and a subsequent meeting between the offender and his victim. It also shows the work of the various organisations involved in justice, such as the police, the Crown Prosecution Service, courts and the YOT.
