Of 700 schools in England contacted for its National School Grounds Survey, 73 per cent reported that well-kept school grounds improved pupil behaviour, while 64 per cent believed that good grounds had significantly reduced bullying.
While quality school grounds could help improve a pupil's behaviour through distraction with sports, surprisingly, two-thirds of schools surveyed said that they also improved attitudes towards learning. However, only 28 per cent of schools said improvements had reduced levels of vandalism.
An estimated 84 per cent of schools also said that they had improved social interaction and more than 90 per cent of schools had received ideas for improvements from the pupils themselves.
