The majority of the 2,009 people surveyed by You Gov thought that teachers and head teachers had the most significant role to play. But parents, other pupils and the local education authority all featured prominently.
Johan Jensen, education officer at Stonewall, says the results of the survey are encouraging. "People want homophobic bullying to be tackled," he says. "A lot of responsibility lies with schools - teachers and head teachers are seen as the main people responsible for tackling homophobic bullying. Then outside of the school you have the local authority, which needs to take a strong stance against homophobic bullying."
