NUMBERS GAME: Sight problems

1 min read

The report details research by Dr David Thomson of the optometry and visual science department at City University, London, which screened the eyesight of 3,000 young people and children. The research found that 17-22 per cent of those of school age had an undetected eye condition.

To help tackle this problem, the institute urged parents to book a free eye test for children under 16 years old during Children's Eye Health Week, which took place from 2-8 June. The campaign was to alert parents to the misconception that sight screenings are carried out in schools.

Warning signs for possible poor vision include blinking more than usual and irritability when doing close-up work, itchy eyes, sitting too close to the TV or headaches after using computers or reading.
