Northern Ireland: Police set up youth advisory groups

The groups will discuss issues relating to young people and policing, each comprising 20 to 25 hard-to-reach young people, including disabled young people and young people from ethnic minorities.

Acting inspector Stephen Lilley, inspector for youth issues at the police's community safety branch, said: "Most public disorders are committed by young people. We need to ask why."

The independent advisory groups will be set up in four areas overseen by the Police Service of Northern Ireland's community safety board, linking with organisations such as the Royal National Institute for the Deaf, the Royal National Institute for the Blind, Include Youth, the Youth Justice Agency, local LGBT groups and the Northern Ireland Council for Ethnic Minorities.
