Northern Ireland: Anti-Bullying Forum launched

Efforts to stop bullying in Northern Ireland's schools gathered pace last week with the launch of the Anti-Bullying Forum.

The forum is a coalition of state and voluntary organisations, includingthe education and library boards and the Department of Education, whichwill direct and co-ordinate efforts to reduce and prevent bullying.

"We're using the Anti-Bullying Alliance in England as a model," saidGeraldine Loughran, chairperson of the forum and programme co-ordinatorat Save the Children. "And while progress has been made, bullyingremains a problem."

The forum, which has yet to secure funding, plans to develop its plansover the coming weeks.

The forum's launch coincided with ChildLine Northern Ireland announcingthe opening of an anti-bullying helpline for children and youngpeople.
