News Insight: Sector gains from young volunteers

3 mins read Youth Work
Young people have gained qualifications and found employment through V's full-time volunteering scheme. Ross Watson reports.

Twenty-five-year-old Kayleigh Mozer had been out of work and living off benefits for seven months before she got a volunteering placement with Manchester College as part of the V Talent Year scheme. Next month she begins a youth and community work degree at Manchester Metropolitan University, which she hopes will be the first step towards a career in youth work.

"I enjoyed my experience so much that I now know my passion is working with young people," says Mozer. "Not only did I gain experience in the field but I gained more confidence. Going to university is something I never thought I would do."
