Buckinghamshire County Council is consulting with all of its youth service staff with a view to commissioning out the vast majority of the youth service to private and voluntary organisations.
In a letter to staff members, seen by CYP Now, its manager of integrated youth services, Chris Garcia, says the decision is based on "the need to make significant savings while managing increased demand for public sector services".
The service is proposing to commission out the majority of its current universal provision such as youth clubs to other organisations.
"By doing this, another provider will be able to deliver in a more cost-effective way and attract funding that local authorities are unable to secure," Garcia adds.
