Newly qualified social worker Laura Goodman shares her experiences of training and her first job.

Laura Goodman is a social worker for looked-after children at the social care charity PSS. She qualified in February at Liverpool Hope University.

What attracted you to social work?

As a single parent, I had to overcome a lot of difficulties to get a work-home life balance. I also supported my grandfather who was terminally ill with cancer.

These experiences gave me more of an insight into the obstacles people can come across in life and the support they need. I also felt there was a lot of inequality in society and wanted to be in a position to address that.
