Juliana Bio took a placement in Uganda and found a more open attitude to child HIV care.

Juliana Bio is a social worker in the community and assessment team of Croydon Council's children, young people and learners department. She qualified at Kingston University in October last year.

What did you do before this?

I was a residential childcare support worker in a children's home in Croydon. I did that for five years. I came into social work via an employment-based route, Croydon Council's social work training scheme, which allows you time off to study. I was doing other things professionally, including PR and marketing, before becoming a social worker. But on a voluntary basis, I was working with children and young people in a local community church.
