Lauren Wicks is a social worker in the intake and assessment team of Cambridgeshire Council's Children and Young People's Services. She qualified at Anglia Ruskin University in June last year.
What was the transition into your new job like?
I started with two other newly qualified social workers and we were given a two-week induction. My area manager knew that my placement had not been great, but they set up a really good induction programme.
After the first two weeks, I was given a "buddy", who I spent two weeks shadowing. They were really supportive.
What have you learned so far?
How to work with other professionals and how to get the confidence to challenge them and not be intimidated.
