Almost 100 children and young people aged eight to 17 gave up their Saturday to debate children's rights at an event in London on 22 April. It marked the end of a series of regional workshops supported by children's commissioner for England Al Aynsley-Green.

The aim of the day was to provide information about children's rights, and look at the way young people are represented in the media, as wellas giving information about local opportunities they can get involvedin.

Young NCB, the Children's Rights Alliance for England and Unicef UKjoined forces to create a packed programme. Sessions includedinteractive workshops and activities such as a graffiti wall, whereparticipants could write opinions.

One comment read: "Show us the respect we deserve and maybe us so-called'yobs' will show it back."

"Children and young people often don't know much about their rights,"said Adriana Byrne from Young NCB. "The event gave them a chance todiscuss the issues in a lively and fun environment, and we hope theytake the messages home and share them with their friends."
