NCB Now: Young people consulted on care

NCB's Participation Unit has completed a set of four consultation sessions with young people who have experience of social care on behalf of the Children's Workforce Development Council. The consultations form part of the Options for Excellence review, which aims to develop a set of recommendations designed to support the social care workforce and improve the quality of service for its users.

The four sessions, involving young people aged 11 to 16, were held indifferent regions across England, with each session focusing on aspecific group. Events in London and in Tyne and Wear were attended bylooked after children, while the session in Lancashire was for youngcarers and the Norfolk session was aimed at disabled children and youngpeople.

David Curtis, Young NCB coordinator, said: "The Options for Excellencereview is a great opportunity to improve practice and service deliveryin social care. The recommendations that will come from this review willincorporate the most important voices: those of the children and youngpeople receiving these services. It is only with their experience andviews that such a service can push forward."
