NCB Now: Young people speak out on food adverts

1 min read
NCB is working on a project on behalf of the Office of the Children's Commissioner exploring children and young people's views on non-broadcast advertising of food and drink. The Food and Drink Advertising and Promotion Forum will use the findings for proposals to restrict non-broadcast advertising to children and promote positive food and drink choices.

NCB is consulting children and young people to find out what influencestheir choices about food and drink, exploring the impact of advertising, looking at the links between food and drink choices and health, and whatshould be done to promote healthier choices.

Young NCB members attending a consultation event in May reported theyreceived mixed messages about healthy eating. They explained that theway some products are promoted creates confusion about what constitutesa healthy diet. They want clearer and more consistent labelling and moresophisticated marketing for healthier options to make them moreattractive to young people.

One Young NCB member said: "It was a great chance to express our viewson how food advertising affects our lives."
