NCB Now: Young NCB visits European Parliament

1 min read
Two Young NCB members travelled to Brussels last week to present their views on social exclusion to members of the European Parliament.

Nathan Poole, 14, and Daisy Karoki, 14, joined forces with 10 other young people from Cyprus, Estonia, Finland and Hungary at a reception organised by new charity Eurochild.

At the event, entitled Can You Hear Me?, the group focused on issues such as discrimination and education. They presented possible solutions for the problems young people encounter which can lead them to feel excluded.

"People shouldn't be discriminated against because they are different," explained Daisy. "Children need to learn from an early age to respect other people."

Speaking at the reception, Catriona Williams, Eurochild president and chief executive of NCB's partner organisation Children in Wales, said that the meeting showed the commonality of the key issues: "These young people come from very different communities, from rural Estonia to east London, but many of the barriers to inclusion are the same."
