Funded by The Gatsby Charitable Foundation, the project is the first in England to compare policy and practice in improving educational opportunities and outcomes for looked-after children.
The project worked with three local authorities - Derby, Harrow and Portsmouth - to provide them with the staff and funding to help strengthen their existing policy and practice. The new web site outlines the achievements of these local authorities, as detailed in an independent evaluation that complemented the development project. The evaluation of the first three-years of development activity stressed the need for supportive care placements, senior policy and practice "champions", and more effective inter-agency working and information policies.
