NCB Now: Strengthening the voice of regional VCS organisations

1 min read
VCS Engage regional development managers, situated within each of the nine government office regions, act as a conduit between the national programme, government offices and the voluntary and community sector.

They are working to establish links and build relations between the voluntary and community sector and government offices, and are helping strengthen local voluntary and community sector infrastructure and support the development of sustainable voluntary and community sector networks.

In London and the South East, representatives from local children, young people and families' voluntary and community sector alliances and forums have started to meet to discuss priority areas and best practice. In other regions, regional development managers have helped to develop pre-existing but more fragmented networks.

The managers have made great progress in establishing effective platforms for cross-sector engagement, and there is real evidence of increased commitment by government offices to work in partnership with the voluntary and community sector. In the East and North West, clear priorities have been agreed and draft action plans have been put in place to improve outcomes for 2007-08.
