NCB Now: Engaging programme supports collaboration

1 min read
A key objective of the VCS Engage programme was to support more collaboration and co-operation between voluntary, community and statutory sectors. To support this aim, the programme developed a self-evaluation tool (SET) to help local authorities assess their current levels of engagement with the voluntary and community sector and review current practice.

The SET was developed to allow local authorities to measure engagement based on standards linked to the current performance frameworks.

VCS Engage regional development managers and voluntary and community sector organisations helped pilot the SET with local authorities across England.

The delivery of the SET varied across local authorities, but consisted mainly of joint meetings, focus groups and discussion forums. Using the SET to prioritise areas for improvement, representatives from the voluntary and community sector and local authorities worked together to develop a number of agreed objectives to improve performance, and draw up an action plan with a timescale for implementation and a method of review.
