NCB Now: Small Steps 4 Life website previewed

1 min read
NCB has worked with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to develop a programme called Small Steps 4 Life. The website for the programme was previewed at the TES Education Show.

NCB consulted young people to build their ideas into the website, which encourages young people, their families and the wider school community to make healthy lifestyle changes by taking up challenges across the themes of healthy eating, getting active and feeling good.

Small Steps 4 Life evolved from the Health Challenge pilot, commissioned by the FSA and developed by NCB, which saw children taking up a challenge to improve their wellbeing. In workshops participants came up with challenge ideas and proposed featuring Olympians on the site alongside children talking about their experiences.

Jo Butcher, assistant director of wellbeing at NCB, said: "The schools that worked on the Health Challenge used the small steps approach to introduce opportunities throughout the day to be active, such as regular walks at lunchtime to achieve the equivalent distance from Dover to London.
