NCB NOW: Video shows challenge of healthy life

1 min read
A new network for primary care trusts was launched at NCB last week with presentations from a range of speakers, including Paul Ennals, chief executive of NCB, Professor Al Aynsley-Green, national clinical director for children, and Sheila Scales of the Children, Young People and Families Directorate at DfES.

Also speaking at the event were Matthew Mallows, 15, and Ben Spowage, 16. Together with Young NCB members Georgia Haley and Natasha Hamilton - and with support from NCB and Lincolnshire City Council Youth Service - they have produced a video diary chronicling their attempts to follow a seven-day regime of healthy eating and regular exercise.

"It can be quite tough for people who live in rural areas to stay healthy," said Matthew. "For example, we live more than 10 miles from the nearest swimming pool. There isn't a direct bus route and a round trip in a taxi costs 60."

"When we heard about the video project we jumped at the chance," added Ben. "It shows just how challenging it can be for young people to lead a healthy lifestyle."
