NCB Now: Planning network provides Bill update

1 min read
Developments arising from the green paper, Every Child Matters, and the Children Bill were the theme of a seminar hosted by NCB's Planning for Children Network on 29 April. A range of professionals responsible for children's services, including planning officers and senior managers, attended the event, which was held at NCB in London. The programme included progress reports on children's trusts and information sharing, with input from Hilary Ellam, regional children's trust co-ordinator, Department for Education and Skills and Julie Laughton, local delivery team leader, Information Sharing and Assessment Programme, DfES. Representatives from a number of local authorities explained how they are implementing these initiatives.

Lisa Payne, NCB's principal policy officer, provided participants with a general update on child policy, while NCB's research director, Ruth Sinclair, looked at how to build a culture of participation by involving children and young people.

"It is essential that those responsible for planning children's services are aware of the changes that the Children Bill will bring," said Ruth Dalzell, NCB lead on family support.

The Planning for Children Network was established in 1998 to help NCB members increase their understanding and awareness of the plethora of plans for children's services. The network holds regular seminars throughout the year aimed at those responsible for planning children's services, with the next event planned for autumn 2004.
