NCB Now: Peer mentors promote what works

1 min read
The Centre for Excellence and Outcomes in Children and Young People's Services (C4EO), hosted by NCB, has launched a campaign to recruit and train its first group of 18 sector specialists.

These professionals will work in partnership with local authorities and their children's trust partners to help improve outcomes for children and young people. Experts, with a track record of achievement in a particular C4EO theme, will be drawn from across the children's sector to work with the centre for 50 days over an 18-month period.

C4EO is now recruiting for the early years theme and those selected will be accredited as peer advisers or mentors. Importantly, they will be trained to use the early years "what works" evidence, which the centre has collected through a review of practice and research in the priority areas of the theme.

Sector specialists will then use this acquired knowledge, together with their own experience, to help colleagues overcome challenges. This one-to-one contact from expert peers recognises that knowledge is learned effectively when shared in a range of ways. The work will include time-limited assignments requested by directors of children's services.

C4EO's use of sector specialists acknowledges the significant expertise that already exists within the children's sector and offers peer mentors to work in partnership with people to bring about change.
