NCB Now: C4EO to focus on child poverty

1 min read
The Centre for Excellence and Outcomes in Children and Young People's Services (C4EO) is now looking at child poverty as one of its seven themes, which reflect areas where progress is needed.

It will look at the local policies, strategies and interventions that are most effective in reducing child poverty and tackling inter-generational cycles of poverty. Catherine Fitt, executive director of children's services for Newcastle City Council, will lead the theme, which runs from February 2009 until July 2010.

The centre has already started looking for child poverty sector specialists to work across the nine government office regions. These will be staff who currently work in children's services with recognised expertise in child poverty.

The specialists will help to spread knowledge about what works and support outcome improvement work within their regions. They will be accredited, trained and deployed by the centre to work 50 days over an 18-month period. Backfill funding will be available for organisations that second their staff to C4EO.
