Training on working with asylum seekers

Children in Wales is working with the Welsh Refugee Council to deliver a new one-day training course, An Introduction to Working with Asylum Seeking Children and Young People.

This course aims to develop participants' understanding of the key policy and practice issues that impact on asylum seeking children and young people in Wales. It will make them aware of the differences between asylum seeking and refugee children and the policy framework which exists to support them. They will also learn about the statutory obligations to these children under both immigration and children's legislation. Participants will also gain a greater awareness of issues relating to this group, such as child trafficking, age assessment and the effects of trauma. The training will take place on 9 July 2008.
