The project, which will be run by NCB's early childhood unit in partnership with the London Borough of Camden and children's charity Coram Family, aims to help parents give their children the best start in life by encouraging parental participation in children's centres and other early years settings, and providing support for parents to engage with their children's learning.
During the project the consortium will work to identify and disseminate existing methods of engaging parents effectively. This information will then be used to develop a core model of good practice and a national training scheme for practitioners in children's centres.
"We warmly welcome the Government's recognition that good parenting is vital for children's educational outcomes and development," said Sue Owen, director, early childhood unit.
