NCB Now: Member news - Kids Direct Short Breaks

To help thousands of families get access to short break care, the charity Kids has developed a new online service called Kids Direct Short Breaks. The service uses the latest technology and the charity's extensive experience of providing home and community-based short breaks to link families with fully trained professionals who deliver positive experiences and activities for children and young people while their parents take a break.

Kids Direct Short Breaks works by setting families up with an online account, which states their likes, dislikes and specific requirements. Families then use their accounts to view the profiles of the short break providers, choose who they would like to look after their child, what they would like to do and then book their break.

The secure and easy to use website puts the process of booking a short break in the hands of the family rather than the local authority. It gives families maximum flexibility and control, as well as providing a practical solution to transform the way local authorities deliver short break services.
