The London Borough of Hillingdon
Lessons learned by London Borough of Hillingdon staff as they worked in new ways to support families with complicated problems could soon be helping to improve life for children and parents across the whole of the country. The council joined up with the Department for Education and the London Borough of Enfield to showcase its work at a Delivering Effective Parenting Support to Families and Communities event on 7 December. Hillingdon's Parent Support Service helped more than 300 families last year, tracking each case from beginning to closure. The borough's multi-agency referral panel scrutinises all requests to find the best ways to help.
Councillor David Simmonds, cabinet member for education and children's services in Hillingdon, said: "We were happy to share the lessons we have learnt about what works with our peers. This event was also a great opportunity for us to benefit from others' experience and challenge our own ways of thinking."
