Our best practice: Youth Charter "12" Report

Over the past decade, the Youth Charter has been at the forefront ofsocial inclusion and community regeneration through sport, arts andcultural activity. Its mission is to provide an opportunity for youngpeople to develop through sport in life. This approach has sociallyimpacted communities locally, nationally and internationally.

Over the past month, the culmination of this work was highlighted withinthe recently produced Youth Charter "12" Report. The documentcontributes to the ongoing issues of how sport, arts and culturalactivity can have a positive effect on educational non-attainment,obesity, truancy, anti-social behaviour and youth crime.

In the run up to the Olympics one of the Youth Charter's keyrecommendations is for free access for all young people to sports andleisure facilities. This would enable young people to feel free to enjoya range of sporting activities and improve the health of over twomillion overweight school children in this country.
