"Since May 2005 the council's children's services department has beenrolling out a restorative justice programme for children and youngpeople in care at its 10 residential units.
"This long-term programme of culture change involves key people in thecommunity such as police and teachers. It includes briefing sessions tomake the community aware of the reality for these young people andengage them with helping young people overcome the problems theyface.
"Evaluation of the programme is focusing on issues such as youngpeople's feelings about their environment, staff job satisfaction andpolice call-out rates.
"The project's aim is to improve the long-term outcomes for young peopleso they can develop positive relationships, stay safe and be mentallyand emotionally healthy."
