Our best practice: Making it possible for children and young people in care to be seen and heard.

The Participation and Children's Rights Team offer a range of projects to encourage participation and raise awareness of children's rights among young people in care and care leavers. These projects originate with children and young people. One of the team's projects is Total Respect, a training course aimed at professionals and delivered by young people. The course, which is designed to improve communication between professionals and young people, has been running within Barking and Dagenham for the past three years and more sessions are planned for 2008.

A website promotes children's rights and offers information and a way for young people to e-mail their social worker directly.
