NCB NOW: Member Focus - Bridges Resource Centre - Wokingham

Our best practice "We have created a specialist residential support facility for young people with extremely complex autistic spectrum disorder.

For the first time, we've shifted the focus away from sending a child to an out-of-county placement. Instead, we've set up a service specifically for children with complex needs.

"In phase one, we set up an intensive daycare package, including services to address educational, social, behavioural and self-help skills. This involved multi-agency work between Wokingham Social Services, Alderwood Consultancy and Medicall staffing agency.

"Phase two involved participation of service users and their families to ensure a seamless transition from day to 24-hour care. In phase three, the National Care Standards Commission helped secure, set up and register the home. This service has met the needs of users and their families, and created education and life skills opportunities for autistic young people."
