St Mark's Primary School; Our best practice Talk and Tell

At St Mark's Primary School, many children arrive with limited languageskills that are not up to the job of helping them to learn.

They don't have the language of learning simply because they have neverneeded it before.

As a result of doctoral research, we developed a programme to supportchildren to use and develop vital oral skills, called Talk and Tell. Wefocus on children's language development as soon as they arrive at ourschool and use an oral-rich early years curriculum. The Talk and Tellsessions help children to learn to structure sentences, use vocabularyeffectively and to gradually develop their understanding and use of thegrammar system through effective teacher and peer modelling.
