Although local authorities are responsible for providing effective corporate parenting for the children in their care, many struggle to achieve this.
The new project aims to support officers and elected members in fulfilling the complex but essential strategic role they need to play.
Working with two local authorities, CRCU will develop a range of materials for councillors, corporate parenting groups and senior officers. The resources, which will be distributed to all local authorities in England in 2005, will allow users to understand the law and policy relating to corporate parenting, consider the definition of best practice, provide action planning tools and develop systems for joint planning and decision making.
