Aimed at promoting the positive development of children and young people, Make a Connection in the UK originally consisted of a life skills teaching resource for schools. The project has now secured funding from mobile phone company Nokia to expand its programme to focus on the community, supporting the five key outcomes identified in Every Child Matters.
Over the next year the project will work with settings within Hackney, Croydon, Gateshead, Blackpool and Lincolnshire local authorities to develop the life skills of children and young people in their area. The settings, which are all NCB members, range from extended schools to youth services and it is hoped that the mixture of inner city, urban, seaside and rural locations will diversify the project's findings.
