NCB Now: Looked-after children learn to Sing Up

1 min read
NCB and Sing Up, the national singing programme, will deliver seven innovative projects aimed at improving wellbeing and bringing social and educational benefits for looked-after children through singing.

Recent research from both NCB and Sing Up highlights the positive impact that singing and music can have in helping to improve outcomes for children in care or outside of mainstream education. The benefits include improved academic results, higher levels of confidence and attainment, and the ability to better integrate with peers.

The seven projects will all be based on partnerships between local music organisations and local authority children's services, with the aim of delivering a programme of activities for looked-after children that promotes their wellbeing through singing.

The partnership brings together NCB's eight years of experience from the creative involvement of children and carers, and insight garnered from NCB's People with Passion report, along with what Sing Up has learned from the Beyond the Mainstream pilot projects. The projects revealed that singing helps children outside of mainstream education become more confident.
